‘Key’ tension at Audi factory

The Audi brand, which belongs to the German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen Group, announced in July that the Brussels factory, where the luxury segment electric car model Q8 is produced and approximately 3 thousand people work, would undergo restructuring due to falling demand, and that the production of these models would continue in Mexico. Audi management announced last week that Volkswagen Group had not allocated any new models to the factory. This situation and the uncertainty about their future disturbed factory employees and unions. Workers confiscated the keys to 300 cars that had been completed. Management announced that the factory would remain closed as long as the keys to the cars were not returned, and that employees would not be paid during this period. On the other hand, around 150 workers gathered in front of the factory to protest the management.
