According to the January-August 2024 data of the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), automobile sales increased by 3 percent in the January-August period compared to the previous year, reaching 605,639 units, while the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 9.5 percent, reaching 156,513 units.
The automobile and light commercial vehicle market increased by 0.8 percent in August, the passenger car market increased by 0.23 percent, and the light commercial vehicle market increased by 2.6 percent. The automobile and light commercial vehicle market in August increased by 0.8 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 90,134 units. This year, in August, car sales increased by 0.23 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 69,288, while the light commercial vehicle market increased by 2.6 percent, reaching 20,846.
SUVs sold the most
SUVs, the most preferred body type, had a 55.5 percent share (335,895 units). SUVs were followed by sedans with 26.3 percent share and 159 thousand 181 sales, and H/B cars with 17.1 percent share and 103 thousand 604 sales. Gasoline car sales had a 64.2 percent share with 388 thousand 609, hybrid car sales had a 15.7 percent share with 94 thousand 790, diesel car sales had an 11 percent share with 66 thousand 754, electric car sales had an 8.4 percent share with 51 thousand 144, and LPG car sales had a 0.7 percent share with 4 thousand 342.
