Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that they have never given up on negotiations with Ukraine, saying, “We are ready to seek compromise and reach a reasonable compromise.” Noting that the Russian army is advancing on the front in all directions, Putin stated that Ukraine lost control of its troops that entered the Russian-held Kursk region in early August.
In an interview with the “Rossiya-1” television channel, Russian President Vladimir Putin assessed the possibility of restarting negotiations with Ukraine, with which Russia is at war. Putin, who explained that they recently received an offer of negotiations upon Ukraine’s request through Turkey, reported that during the 79th meeting of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly held in New York, USA last month, the Director of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) İbrahim Kalın called Kremlin Foreign Policy Advisor Yuriy Ushakov and conveyed the offer of negotiations requested by Ukraine.
“UKRAINIAN ADMINISTRATION HAS GONE UP” Putin noted that they accepted the offer on the same day but that the Ukrainian administration has given up and said, “The Ukrainian administration is acting irrationally, it is difficult to predict the step it has taken. It is impossible to create any plan in this situation.” Reminding that he met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan two days ago within the scope of the Extended BRICS+ Leaders Meeting held in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, affiliated with the Russian Federation, Putin said, “Mr. Erdoğan presented a new offer regarding the continuation of contacts (with the Ukrainian side) regarding ships and other issues in the Black Sea.” Putin, who did not want to disclose the details of this offer, said, “I haven’t been able to examine this yet. Actually, these are private things.”
“WE ARE READY FOR A REASONABLE COMPROMISE” Putin said that he would examine the offer conveyed by Erdoğan and said, “We’ll see. We have never given up on negotiations. We have always acted on the fact that Russia’s interests must be respected in any agreement. Another important element is complying with the agreements. We are ready to seek compromise and make a reasonable compromise.” Putin stated that the Ukrainian side made two negotiation offers through Turkey and that Russia accepted but the Ukrainian side gave up, and said, “Ultimately, we need to understand whether they (the Ukrainians) are ready and what they are ready for. This requires time to examine the proposals from the Turkish side in detail.” “THERE IS NO TERRITORIAL EXCHANGE WITH UKRAINE” Also assessing the possibility of freezing the Ukraine issue, Putin said, “Any outcome must be in Russia’s interest and must be based on the realities of the battlefield. There is no doubt that we will not make concessions here. There can be no territorial exchange.” Russian President Putin said that the West had begun to assess the situation in Ukraine realistically, but that the level of tension had not decreased. Noting that the Russian army was advancing on all fronts, Putin stated that Ukraine had lost control of its troops that entered the Russian-sponsored Kursk region at the beginning of August.
