Ten soldiers were reportedly killed in an armed attack on security forces in the Sistan-Baluchestan province of southeastern Iran, on the border with Pakistan.
According to Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim, an unidentified armed group attacked border guards on patrol in the Teftan region of the country’s Sistan-Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran. It was reported that 10 soldiers were killed in the attack. Interior Minister Iskander Momini ordered that a comprehensive investigation be launched into the attack and that the results be immediately reported to the public. No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks yet.
ARMED ATTACKS CONTINUE Three police officers lost their lives in armed attacks in Sistan-Baluchestan province on September 30. On October 1, individuals in a passing car opened fire on a school, killing four people. The attacks were claimed by the Jaish al-Adl organization, which occasionally carries out attacks in the region.
“AN ORGANIZATION SUPPORTED BY FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE” The Jundullah organization, which has carried out attacks on civilian and military targets in Iran since 2003, changed its name to Jaish al-Adl in 2012 after its leader Abdulmalik Rigi was captured and executed in 2010.
The organization occasionally carries out attacks in the Sistan and Baluchistan region on the Pakistani border. Iran claims that the group that carried out the attacks is supported by foreign intelligence services, claiming that it “defends the rights of the Sunni Baloch people.”
