SHARE ITEM LOCATION FEATURE
The American technology company has introduced a new iOS feature called “Share Item Location”.
With this feature, people will be able to share the real-time coordinates of their lost or misplaced luggage with third parties, including airlines.
It has been noted that Apple works with AirTags as well as accessories that support the Find My feature.
HOW TO USE IT?
Users will be able to share the location information with airlines by turning on the “Find My” feature and creating a “Share Item Location” link for a specific item.
You can follow this link when you send it to someone, an interactive map will open showing the item’s current location, and the map will update if the item moves.
“WE’RE EXCITED”
“We’re excited to give users a new way to easily share that information directly with third parties like airlines with Share Location, while still protecting their privacy,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services.
The feature is available in iOS 18.2 beta, but the update is expected to be generally available soon.
END-TO-END ENCRYPTION
Apple also says the process of sharing an item’s location is end-to-end encrypted and anonymous.
The shared location will automatically be disabled when you receive the misplaced item again.
