An interesting robotic incident in the city of Shanghai, China, created a huge stir on social media. Footage captured by security cameras at a robotics company’s showroom shows a small robot entering the showroom at night, convincing 12 large robots to “stop their work” and dragging them outside.
A robot “kidnapping” other robots in the city of Shanghai, China, has become a trending topic on social media. Footage captured by security cameras shows a small robot convincing 12 large robots in the showroom to “stop their work” and dragging them outside. Footage of the incident, which took place in August, went viral last week on the Douyin platform, known as China’s TikTok. In the videos, the small robot first convinces two robots to “go home” by engaging in a conversation with other robots in the showroom. The remaining 10 robots then join them, and all the robots leave the showroom. In the footage, the small robot asks one of the larger robots, “Are you working overtime?” The response is, “I never get done.” The small robot then asks, “So you’re not going home?” and manages to get the other robots out with the command, “Go home.”
A PLANNED MISSION The incident, which seemed like a fun fiction at first, was confirmed by the showroom owner company. The company announced that the incident was real and that it was carried out for test purposes. Company officials stated that the small robot was their model and successfully completed the task of “convincing” other robots. However, after the incident, some social media users commented that it was “scary” that robots exhibited such advanced social skills. While security concerns increased, the security and ethical issues of artificial intelligence came to the fore once again.
