Reactions to Elon Musk are growing: Bundesliga team abandons X!

Bundesliga team Werder Bremen announced on their official social media account that they have decided not to share on X, formerly known as Twitter, and will continue sharing posts on rival platform Bluesky. It was noted that this decision was made because X’s owner Elon Musk allowed hate speech and far-right posts to spread under the guise of freedom of expression.

The Werder Bremen board of directors decided that the club would leave the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

The green-whites’ German account has around 540,000 followers, while their English account has just over 37,000 followers.

The announcement was made by Werder CEO Klaus Filbry during the club’s annual general assembly meeting.

Since Elon Musk took over the platform, it is thought that hate speech, hatred towards minorities, far-right posts and conspiracy theories have been allowed to spread at an incredible speed under the guise of freedom of expression.

The German team announced that it will continue its posts on the Bluesky platform, which emerged as a rival to X.

Statement from the green-whites as follows:

“The board of Werder Bremen has decided to end the club’s presence on the social media platform ‘X’. Under the guise of freedom of expression, hate speech, hatred towards minorities, far-right content and conspiracy theories have begun to spread at an incredible speed on X. With the platform’s recent radicalization, a limit has been crossed for the club. The green-whites are therefore leaving X immediately and hope that their more than 600,000 followers will follow the club on Bluesky in the future.”

IS THE END OF X COMING?

The backlash against Elon Musk, who is thought to have played an important role in Donald Trump’s victory in the US general election, continues to increase.

Most recently, The Guardian and Observer newspapers announced that they no longer found the platform unusable and stopped posting.

Stephen King, Barbrea Streisand and Jamie Lee Curtis are also among those who have left X for this reason.
