Following the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban made a remarkable statement. Orban said that he would invite Netanyahu to his country and guarantee that the arrest warrant would not be complied with. Netanyahu thanked Orban for his “moral clarity.”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has expressed support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for whom an arrest warrant has been issued.
Orban said today that he would invite Netanyahu to visit Hungary and ensure that the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Netanyahu would not be complied with.
Yesterday, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant, as well as Hamas leader Ibrahim al-Masri (Mohammed Deif), on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza conflict.
Orban, whose country holds the six-month presidency of the European Union, told state radio that the ICC’s arrest warrant was “wrong” and that the Israeli leader could hold negotiations in Hungary “with sufficient security.”
THANKS FROM NETANYAHU
Netanyahu thanked Orban for his “moral clarity” by inviting him to visit him despite the ICC’s arrest warrant. “Hungary stood by justice and truth in the face of the shameful weakness of those behind the outrageous decision against the State of Israel’s right to self-defense,” Netanyahu said. Netanyahu’s office also published a letter sent by Orban. “Hungary strongly condemns this shameful decision, which has no impact on the Hungarian-Israeli alliance and friendship. Israel has the right to defend itself against any threat,” Orban said in the letter.
