Former Bolivian President Evo Morales accused then-US President Donald Trump of financing the coup against him after winning the 2019 elections.
Former Bolivian President Evo Morales met with his supporters in the city of Cochabamba. He harshly criticized Trump, who was elected as the 47th president of the United States.
Morales claimed that Trump financed the 2019 coup against him and said, “Donald Trump is the leader of the 2019 coup. (Referring to Bolivian President Luis Arce) Arce is congratulating the coup leader, I don’t understand this.” Emphasizing that no leftist in Latin America could be expected to defend the US government, Morales said that Arce was relying on the US to secure his own power. Morales also stated that the people wanted to see him as president again and that he did not find the decision of the Multinational Constitutional Court (TCP) blocking his candidacy legal. “THE MOST INSIDIENT COUP IN HISTORY” Following the presidential elections held in Bolivia on October 20, 2019, the opposition claimed that the elections were “fraudulent” and both sides called their supporters to street demonstrations. Under pressure from the opposition and at the request of the army, Morales resigned from his post as president and went to Mexico, where he accepted an offer of asylum. Evo Morales has stated in various statements that the US had a hand in his removal from power. Morales said in an interview with AA on November 13, 2019, “The most insidious and evil coup in history has been carried out.”
