Fearful moments in Japan: Rocket engine explodes during test

An explosion occurred following a fire during an engine test of the Epsilon S rocket developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

The engine test of the Epsilon S rocket developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency has once again caused fearful moments. According to the statement made by JAXA, a fire broke out for an as yet unknown reason in the 49th second of the second stage engine ground test conducted at the Tanegashima Space Center in Kagoshima Prefecture at 08:30 local time. An explosion occurred immediately following the fire, and fortunately no one was killed or injured. A detailed investigation has been launched into the incident.

AN EXPLOSION HAS OCCURRED BEFORE

On July 14 of last year, an explosion and fire broke out during the Epsilon S rocket second stage engine test conducted at the Noshiro Rocket Test Center in Akita Prefecture. No one was killed or injured in the incident.

IT IS FORESEEN TO INCREASE COMPETITIVENESS

It is stated that the Epsilon series rockets, which were developed by JAXA as launch rockets in 2007, were designed to reduce labor and launch costs with the help of technology.

It is known that the Epsilon series rockets, powered by solid fuel, have replaced the M-V series previously designed by Japan to launch satellites for scientific research purposes. Developed as the successor to the previous Epsilon series rockets, the Epsilon S is expected to increase the country’s competitiveness in satellite launches.
