Muhammad Colani was born in Saudi Arabia in 1982 as the son of a Syrian family in exile. His real name is Ahmed Hussein al-Shara, and his pen name is Abu Muhammed al-Golani. His family was forced to leave their home in the Golan Heights during the war in 1967. For this reason, he uses the pen name Colani. Towards the end of the 1980s, his family returned to Syria.
