Thai police raided a drug party in Bangkok. More than 120 people who attended the party were detained. It was reported that everyone detained was tested for drug use, and 66 of them had substances in their systems.
Thai police officials received a tip-off that a “drug party” was being held in a hotel room in central Bangkok.
Photos taken by police showed a room full of male suspects handcuffed and wearing nothing but their underwear as officers searched them for drugs. Authorities said 31 of the 124 people arrested were found to be in possession of illegal drugs such as crystal meth and ketamine. All were tested for the substances, with 66 found to be in their systems.
THAILAND’S DRUG HISTORY Thailand is a major hub for illegal drug trafficking in Southeast Asia, and police raids and seizures of hard drugs such as heroin and methamphetamine are common. The U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) said 190 tonnes of methamphetamine were seized in East and Southeast Asia last year. Thailand has strict anti-drug laws. Possession of category one drugs, which include ecstasy and methamphetamine, can carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
