Volcano erupts in the Philippines: 87,000 people to be evacuated

The Kanlaon Volcano on the Philippines’ Negros Island has erupted for the second time this year. It was announced that approximately 87 thousand people will be evacuated from the region following the eruption.

According to the Philippine News Agency (PNA), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology announced that the Kanlaon Volcano has become active.
The statement said that the volcanic activity lasted for about 4 minutes and ash was ejected to an altitude of 3 thousand meters from the volcano.
The statement announced that the alert level for the Kanlaon Volcano was raised from 2 to 3, and warned that the volcano could experience more eruptions in the future.
A statement from the Philippine Civil Defense Office announced that 87 thousand people will be evacuated from the 6-kilometer area around the volcano.
The statement also stated that there was no loss of life as a result of the eruption of the volcano on the island of Negros, and an alarm was given that more eruptions could occur in the region.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said yesterday that the Kanlaon Volcano erupted and spewed ash 3,000 meters high.
