A new era against drunk drivers with artificial intelligence cameras

A new artificial intelligence-supported camera system has begun testing in the English cities of Devon and Cornwall to detect whether drivers are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This high-tech camera, called Heads-Up, can quickly identify risky situations by analyzing drivers’ behavior on the road.

A new artificial intelligence-powered camera system has begun testing in the Devon and Cornwall regions of England to detect drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
When the camera detects a suspicious situation, it notifies the police teams further along the road. Police officers stop the vehicle and perform a roadside alcohol and drug test on the driver.
The system can be deployed to any road environment without drivers even realizing it, without warning. This makes the technology a highly effective tool.
Geoff Collins, UK General Manager of Acusensus, which developed the system, expressed his satisfaction with the project and said, “We are delighted to be conducting the first trials of this technology in the world in Devon and Cornwall. “Detecting danger before it can cause life-destroying incidents will make us all safer,” he said. Previously, Acusensus cameras have been used to great effect in spotting drivers using mobile phones or not wearing seatbelts. Now the focus is on preventing the risks posed by drink drivers in particular.
Devon and Cornwall Police has highlighted the life-saving potential of this new technology, highlighting that drink drivers are six times more likely to be involved in fatal crashes. Chief Constable Simon Jenkinson, team leader, said: “Our officers cannot be everywhere, but embracing this type of advanced technology is vital to reducing deaths and serious injuries on our roads.” he said.
The testing process of the new system will continue throughout December, simultaneously with other campaigns aimed at preventing drink-driving. If the test is successful, the system is planned to be implemented throughout the UK.

This revolutionary innovation for road safety holds promise for preventing drink-driving cases, which increase especially during the holiday period.
