Belarus hopeful for the future: “Europe will open sooner or later”

Belarusian leader Lukashenko said that relations with Ukraine will normalize and that Europe will open up to Russia and Belarus sooner or later.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko drew attention to the importance of Moscow for the Belarusian people in his meeting with Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.

Noting that many people from his country went to Moscow for New Year’s Eve, Lukashenko explained that the road connection to the city of Brest via Minsk is important for the people of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. Lukashenko said, “I think that sooner or later Europe will open up to us. Europe cannot exist without Russia, it cannot exist without us (Belarus). That is why good highways are needed. And so that Belarusians can quickly go to Moscow and come back.” Noting that while the capitals of Russia and Belarus are connected by good highways, St. Petersburg should not be forgotten, Lukashenko said, “I think that Kiev will work with us calmly over time. After all, we are people. Anything can happen in life. But we think that we can normalize our relations with them.” Recalling that he paid an official visit to Oman and the United Arab Emirates, Lukashenko said that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon and will also visit China. On the other hand, the Belarusian Central Election Commission announced that Lukashenko’s candidacy application for the presidential elections to be held on January 26, 2025 has been accepted. The commission also announced that the candidacies of the leader of the Belarusian Liberal Democratic Party Oleg Gaydukevich, the leader of the Republican Party of Justice and Labor Aleksandr Hijnyak and the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus Sergey Sırankov were also accepted.
