A total of 1,534 prisoners escaped in a prison riot in the Southeast African country of Mozambique, and at least 33 people lost their lives and 15 were injured in clashes around the prison.

A riot broke out in a prison during the protests in the capital Maputo.

Rafael said that 1,534 prisoners had escaped, and that 33 people had died and 15 people had been injured in clashes with guards outside the prison.
It was later reported that 150 prisoners were caught.
