It has been claimed that President Joe Biden, who is preparing to hand over his office in the US, will not implement the decision to ban the Chinese social networking application TikTok.
According to news in the US press, it has been claimed that the Joe Biden administration, which gave TikTok until January 19 to end all relations with the Chinese ByteDance, or announced that the company would be banned in the country and closed to users, will change this decision. Many media outlets reported that Biden will not ban TikTok and will leave this decision to President-elect Donald Trump. On the other hand, there was no response from the White House regarding these claims. REGULATION THAT MAKE THE BAN POSSIBLE
The US administration took a step by stipulating that TikTok, which it accused of making information about users in the country accessible to the Chinese administration, would either be sold to an American company or be banned in 2024. In this context, the bill, which was passed by Congress in March, was passed by the Senate in April and signed by US President Joe Biden. The Biden administration gave TikTok until January 19, 2025 to end all relations with China’s ByteDance, stating that otherwise the company would be banned in the US and closed to users’ access. TikTok, which has 170 million users in the US, also applied to the Court of Appeals to have this law annulled, arguing that it violated the freedom of expression in Article 1 of the US Constitution and the US’s “open internet” policy. TikTok also argued in its application that the time period granted by the US administration was too short and that it was not technically and practically possible to end the platform’s relationship with ByteDance during this period. The Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the law that paved the way for the ban on TikTok. On the other hand, Donald Trump opposed the law, which will come into force one day before he takes office on January 20, 2025, during his election campaign.
