The European Union is preparing to lift sanctions imposed on Syria’s energy, transportation and finance sectors.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot announced that the European Union (EU) will lift some sanctions on Syria in order to support stability in Syria. EU Foreign Ministers will discuss this issue at a meeting held in Brussels. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas expressed hope that an agreement can be reached on easing sanctions. “We will decide to lift or temporarily suspend certain sanctions imposed on Syria’s energy and transport sectors, as well as on financial institutions that are of great importance for the country’s financial stability,” Barrot said ahead of the meeting.
