In response to US President Donald Trump’s threats to seize Greenland, which have become a hot topic, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen had dinner at her home with the prime ministers of Norway, Sweden and Finland. Frederiksen wrote, “We share the seriousness of the situation. Denmark is not alone,” under the photo she shared on her Instagram account.
The prime ministers of four countries came together to deliver a message against 47th US President Donald Trump’s threats to annex the semi-autonomous Greenland, which is affiliated with Denmark.
Following her 45-minute phone conversation with Trump, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen had dinner at home with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. The Danish leader announced the meeting at his home with a photo she shared on her Instagram account.
Frederiksen wrote, “I would like to give a brief status update from here,” in the note she added to her post: “This evening, I am hosting my colleagues from the Nordic countries of Finland, Norway and Sweden for dinner at my home. We previously held a meeting at the Prime Ministry.” “And in this new and more unpredictable reality, strong and close alliances and friendships have become even more important. In our meeting today, we discussed our regional defense and security cooperation. We share the seriousness of the situation. And for myself, I have no doubt that defense and security will and must continue to be a priority for Denmark, the Nordic countries and the rest of Europe,” Frederiksen added.
“DENMARK IS NOT ALONE” The Danish leader also stated that many people who reached out to her were concerned about the situation in the world, and said, “I understand that very well. We must not forget that Denmark is not alone.” “We have many close allies with whom we share common values. And we belong to a continent that we are all working hard to make stronger,” the Danish Prime Minister emphasized, adding, “This is an important duty of the government and me as prime minister. This is not only valid from a military perspective, but also from an economic and technological perspective.” WHAT DID TRUMP SAY? Trump had said that making Greenland, a semi-autonomous region of Denmark, a part of the US was a matter of national security for his country and announced that he would not rule out the options of using force and applying economic pressure to do this. When asked by reporters about Greenland after taking office, Trump said, “Greenland is a wonderful place. We need Greenland for international security. I am sure Denmark will agree to this. It costs them a lot of money to maintain and preserve it.”
