The Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, confirmed the killing of their leader Mohammed Deif and Military Council member Marwan Issa, along with five other members. No details were given as to when or how Deif died. The Israeli Army announced in a statement on August 1 that Mohammed Deif was killed in an operation.
It was announced that Mohammed Deif, the leader of the Qassam Brigades, who is also known as the architect of the tunnel network under Gaza, has died. Qassam Brigades spokesman Abu Ubaydah did not give details in his statement as to when or how Deif died. It was reported that in addition to Deif, members of the Qassam Brigades Military Council, Marwan Issa, Ghazi Abu Tamah, Raid Sabit, Rafi Salame, Ahmed Gandur and Ayman Nawfel, also lost their lives.
