She went to the hospital at the age of 30 with 5 symptoms: They said it was menopause, but it turned out to be a fatal cancer, and her mother had the same disease

A mother and daughter living in England had to fight cancer after their symptoms, which doctors diagnosed as menopause and asthma, started to appear. Jessica Warrington (31) and her mother Sarah Voy (53) decided to support each other after receiving similar diagnoses regarding their illnesses.

Jessica, 30, applied with symptoms such as back pain, fatigue, headaches, mood swings and brain fog, and doctors said it could be the early onset of menopause. However, following tests in September 2024, Jessica was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
Sarah had been experiencing difficulty breathing and neck pain for years. She had been treated for suspected simple asthma for a year. However, on holiday in October 2022, her health condition seriously deteriorated when she nearly drowned.
After going to the doctor, Sarah was diagnosed with subglottic stenosis, a rare disease, but the swelling in her neck gradually grew.
While Jessica was focusing on her mother’s health problems, she started to see the same symptoms on her own body. At first, doctors suspected menopause. However, Jessica, who stated that she was young, consulted another doctor and was diagnosed with thyroid cancer as a result of the tests.
While Jessica’s type of cancer is follicular thyroid cancer, which is treatable and usually curable, her mother Sarah was diagnosed with the rarer thyroid microcarcinoma. Both underwent surgery to remove tumors from their necks. Jessica received a clean bill of health after a successful surgery, while Sarah’s final test results are awaited.
“If I can help someone, that means the most to me in the world,” Jessica says. Mother and daughter emphasize that cancer does not discriminate between age and gender and that a second opinion must be obtained for early diagnosis.
Thyroid cancers are tumors that originate from thyroid nodules. A family history of thyroid cancer, a history of radiation to the neck for another reason, and various mutations at the cellular level can cause cancer to develop from thyroid nodules.
Factors that lead to thyroid cancer are as follows:

Genetic factor
Gender (More common in women)
Exposure to high levels of radiation
Iodine deficiency
Toxic goiter
Obesity
Radiation therapies applied especially to head and neck cancers
