OpenAI plans to release its new artificial intelligence model Orion in December. Orion will initially be shared only with selected companies and will potentially be 100 times more powerful than GPT-4.
OpenAI, the developer of the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT, plans to release its new artificial intelligence model Orion by December. Unlike the release of OpenAI’s last two models, GPT-4o and o1, Orion is not initially expected to reach a wide audience through ChatGPT. The company is primarily looking to gain access to companies it works closely with, so they can develop their own products and features. Engineers at Microsoft say Orion is set to be hosted on Azure as early as November. Orion is seen as a successor to GPT-4 within OpenAI, but it’s not yet clear whether the company will refer to the model externally as GPT-5. OpenAI executives describe Orion as potentially 100 times more powerful than GPT-4.
