Alarming study: Cancer deaths to double by 2050

The number of people dying from cancer will almost double by 2050, scientists have said. It was also noted that there is an expected 77 percent increase in cancer cases between 2022 and 2050.

The number of deaths from cancer worldwide is expected to almost double by 2050.

Habtamu Bizuayehu and his team from the University of Queensland in Australia made this discovery by looking at the latest figures on the incidence and mortality rates of 36 types of cancer in 185 countries from the Global Cancer Observatory database.

They then applied these figures to the United Nations Development Program’s 2050 population projections to predict future cases and deaths.

77 PERCENT INCREASE IN CASES

The total number of cancer cases worldwide is expected to increase by approximately 77 percent between 2022 and 2050, meaning that in addition to the 20 million cases in 2022, there will be an additional 15.3 million cases in 2050. It has been determined that this means.

MORTALITY RATES WILL ALSO INCREASE

Global cancer deaths are also expected to increase by almost 90 percent during this period, with an additional 8.8 million deaths by 2050 compared to 2022, when 9.7 million people died from the disease.

The largest increases are expected to occur in countries that rank low or in the middle of the UN Human Development Index, which is based on life expectancy, education level and income per capita.

In countries with low scores, such as Niger and Afghanistan, cancer cases and deaths are expected to almost triple on average by 2050.

Meanwhile, in countries with very high scores, such as Norway, cases and deaths are expected to increase by more than 42 percent and 56 percent on average, respectively.
