Armed attack in Brussels: Police begin hunt for Kalashnikovs in metro tunnels

Belgian police are searching for attackers who opened fire outside a subway station in Brussels. It is thought the men wearing ski masks may have hidden in the subway tunnels. Almost all stations in the capital have been closed. Local media reported that the suspects were carrying weapons that appeared to be Kalashnikovs.

A shooting took place outside a metro station in the center of Brussels, the capital of Belgium.

Police are searching for the gunmen after receiving a tip-off.

Security camera footage released by local media shows at least two men wearing ski masks and carrying guns at the entrance to Clemenceau station.
Images from the scene show a shootout at 06:15 local time.

Brussels police spokeswoman Sarah Frederickx said the suspects fled toward the metro station and may still be in the subway tunnels. The spokeswoman said there were no injuries in the shooting. Both local police and the federal railway police are searching the area.
Frederickx said police were looking for two or three people, adding that they could still be armed and that police did not want to take any risks.

BrusselsToday reported that the suspects were carrying weapons that appeared to be Kalashnikovs.
