Stating that Trump posed a “threat” to democracy, Biden said, “We should put him in jail.” Biden, who was applauded after his statements, tried to correct his harsh rhetoric and said, “We have to keep him out politically. This is what we need to do.”
“OUR DEMOCRACY IS IN DANGER”
Noting that Trump wanted to disregard the guarantees of the US Constitution, Biden said, “If Trump defeats Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, our democracy is in danger.”
Trump had used the expression “throw her in jail” in rallies he held as part of the 2016 presidential election campaign, referring to his opponent Hillary Clinton.
CALL FOR CONDEMNATION OF HARRIS
Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt also said, “Biden spoke the facts. Biden and Kamala Harris’ plan from the beginning was to persecute their opponent Trump politically because they could not defeat him fairly. Biden and Kamala are a real threat to our democracy. “We call on Kamala Harris to condemn these shameful statements by Biden.”
