US President Joe Biden sent a letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
According to the statement made by the Presidency of Azerbaijan, Biden stated in his letter that he was pleased with the progress of the peace agreement, which will serve to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Biden said in his letter, “I want to assure you that the United States will finally end the conflict that has been going on for centuries. The United States stands ready to support the achievement of a lasting and honorable peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. In addition to ensuring Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the peace agreement will transform the entire region and provide greater trade, investment, and connectivity between Europe and Central Asia. At a time when the eyes of the world are on Baku for the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), you have the opportunity to demonstrate to the global community your commitment to peace.”
Noting that flexibility is required from both sides to complete the work on the outstanding provisions of the peace agreement, Biden said, “However, I am confident that you will seize this opportunity. I invite you to complete the agreement this year. I want to convey my commitment to this issue. My administration stands ready to put forward bold initiatives that will lead to peace. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to define a new strategy for the region for the common prosperity and the common good.”
