This year’s summit, which is being held for the first time in an expanded form of the BRICS, of which Russia holds the rotating presidency for 2024, carries particular importance at a time when Western countries continue to attempt to isolate Russia. The Kremlin said in a statement that the focus of the meetings will be on strengthening coordination to support a multipolar world. Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a statement that more than 30 countries have expressed their desire to join BRICS. Putin said that they will discuss the expansion of the group at the meeting, but that they will also keep in mind the need to maintain efficiency. ERDOĞAN-PUTIN MEETING Putin’s Foreign Policy Advisor Yuri Ushakov announced that Putin and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will meet on the second day of the BRICS summit.
Ushakov said, “Putin and Erdoğan will meet in Kazan on October 23. The leaders will discuss the natural gas hub planned to be established in Turkey at this summit.” According to BBC Turkish, Russian leader Putin, speaking before the summit, said that every country that wants to be a member of the BRICS group will be invited to join the group.
