Canada has received approval for Elon Musk’s company Neuralink, which is working on a brain chip. With the approval, Neuralink will conduct the first clinical trial of the device designed to give paralyzed people the ability to use digital devices with only the power of thought. The company will test the safety and functionality of the implant, which allows people paralyzed from the neck down to control devices with their thoughts. University Health Network Hospital in Canada announced that its Toronto facility had been chosen to perform the complex surgical procedure.

IT HAD BEEN INSTALLED IN TWO PATIENTS IN THE US The Neuralink device had previously been implanted in two patients in the US. The company said it worked well in a second trial patient who used it for activities such as playing computer games and designing 3D objects. Neuralink, which was founded by Musk and a group of engineers in 2016, is also developing a brain chip interface that can be implanted in the skull and aims to help disabled patients move, communicate and regain their vision.
