With the executive order he signed on February 1, US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25 percent customs duty on imports from Canada and Mexico, and a 10 percent customs duty on imports from China. Canada responded to Trump’s sanctions by drawing the Canadian flag in the air at the US border. Trump also made statements that drew reaction that Canada should be their 51st state.
The customs duty crisis between Canada and the US continues. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the additional customs duties imposed by US President Donald Trump have been temporarily suspended.
Following his meeting with Trump, Trudeau said that the 25 percent customs duty imposed by the US on Canada would be suspended for at least 30 days in response to the measures they will take to increase border security.
CANADIAN FLAG ON THE US BORDER
In response to Trudeau’s statement, Canada also gave a nationalist response to the US. A Canadian plane flew over the US border and drew a Canadian flag in the air. The flag drawn by a Canadian plane was recorded by Flightradar.
US President Donald Trump, reiterating his statements the other day about Canada becoming a state, said, “Canada should be our 51st state that we should cherish. Much lower taxes, much better military protection for the Canadian people, and no customs duties.”
