Church scandal in the US: Pastor who allowed Sabrina Carpenter to shoot music video fired

The investigation following the controversial music video of famous singer Sabrina Carpenter revealed that the priest had fraudulently stolen $1.9 million. The church leader was removed from office, and the incident became a trending topic on social media.

Jamie Gigantiello, the pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Brooklyn, New York, was removed from his post due to allegations of $1.9 million in corruption and other administrative irregularities.
World-famous singer Sabrina Carpenter’s “Feather” video, filmed in a church, has sparked controversy. Although the video was filmed with the church’s permission, it has drawn criticism due to its “obscene” content. However, the real problem emerged in the investigation following the incident.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn found that Gigantiello unauthorizedly transferred $1.9 million in church funds to accounts linked to Frank Carone, an advisor to former New York City Mayor Eric Adams. The statement said the fund transfers were a serious violation of diocese policies.
It was also reported that Gigantiello used his church credit card for personal expenses, and that some of the funds were repaid with favorable interest rates, but were not fully documented. The church said in a statement, “We are taking the necessary steps to maintain public trust and rebuild the reputation of the Church.” Gigantiello was completely relieved of his administrative duties, and Bishop Witold Mroziewski was appointed in his place.
Following the scandal, Sabrina Carpenter made a reference to the issue at her Madison Square Garden concert. Carpenter said, “Damn, let’s talk about how I got the mayor indicted.”
