Church scandal in the US: The cult that took babies from hundreds of women was exposed

An investigation conducted by the British news organization BBC last year claimed that a cult in the US had been abusing children for years. The FBI conducted an investigation following this and uncovered another scandal regarding the cult. According to the news, hundreds of women were forced to give their children up for adoption by wealthy families between the 1950s and 1990s.

A Christian cult in the US has allegedly forced women to give their children up for adoption for years. Former women members of the cult, who spoke to the BBC about their experiences, said that the cult, which is affiliated with the church called The Truth, forced hundreds of women to give their children up for adoption to wealthy families between the 1950s and 1990s. Some of the adopted children also described being abused in their adoptive families. Last year, the BBC revealed the sexual abuse of children in an investigation into the cult, which has an estimated 100,000 members worldwide. “MY FEAR OF GOING TO HELL WAS GREAT” One of the four women, whose identities the BBC is keeping secret, said that after she was raped at the age of 17 in 1988, she was pressured to give her baby to a married couple in the church. “My fear of going to hell was so great that I had to give my baby to this couple in the church,” she said. Another woman described how she was not even allowed to see her baby one last time before it was taken away from her. The BBC also spoke to six people who were forcibly adopted as babies in the cult. One woman, who said she had been adopted twice, said she was physically and emotionally abused by her cult family the first time and sexually abused by her second family. The children who were put up for adoption are known within the cult as the “Baldwin Babies”. The adoptions were overseen by Wally Baldwin, a doctor who died in 2004. As the church has no official leader, the BBC contacted six of the cult’s senior leaders. One of the directors maintains that all adoptions are “done through legal channels”.
