This time, Peruvian police made headlines with an unusual New Year-themed operation. In a drug raid held in Lima, a police officer dressed as Dr. Seuss’s famous character the Grinch broke into the suspects’ house with a sledgehammer and entered the door. A large amount of cash, drugs and sensitive weighing devices were seized in the operation. Three people were taken into custody in the raid.
This time, Peruvian police raided drug traffickers disguised as the cartoon character the Grinch.
The police officer hid his identity by attending a Christmas event in the region hours before the raid. Colonel Carlos Lopez Aedo, head of Peru’s Green Squadron, said the Grinch disguise played a critical role in the operation’s success. “We used the Grinch after the Christmas event. Thanks to him, the police presence in the neighborhood went unnoticed,” he said.
Cocaine hydrochloride, cocaine paste, precision scales and various other equipment were seized during the operation, while the Grinch became a trending topic on social media after the raid. Social media users approached the operation with humor, commenting, “This time, the Grinch proved that he hates criminals, not Christmas.”
Peruvian police often use creative disguise methods in their operations against criminals during the holiday period. Previous operations conducted with Freddy Krueger and various superhero costumes have also attracted attention. The Grinch’s new role in fighting crime has attracted great interest from both locals and social media users.
