A record sale was achieved at a fish auction held in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. A giant bluefin tuna caught by Japanese fishermen was sold for $1.3 million, or approximately 46 million lira.
The first fish auction of 2025 was held in Toyosu, where Japanese fishermen put the fish they catch up for sale. The traditional fish auction, which hosts thousands of people every year, was once again met with great interest. This year, a 276 kg bluefin tuna caught in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, sold for a whopping $1.3 million. The giant tuna was recorded as the second most expensive fish sold since the auction began in 1999. It was announced that a restaurant chain with sushi Michelin stars purchased the 276 kg fish. The record for the most expensive fish sold at the Toyosu Fish Market was broken in 2019 with a sale of $2.1 million.
