GÖKBEY helicopter enters the inventory: What is the T625 GÖKBEY helicopter, what does it do? What are the features of the TUSAŞ GÖKBEY helicopter?

The GÖKBEY helicopter developed by TUSAŞ is a matter of curiosity for all of Turkey. The T625 GÖKBEY helicopter, which will enter the Gendarmerie Aviation Command inventory today, can be used for multi-purpose purposes in firefighting, air ambulance, transportation and search and rescue operations. So, what is the T625 GÖKBEY helicopter and what does it do? What are the features of the TUSAŞ GÖKBEY helicopter?

T625 GÖKBEY is a general-purpose helicopter designed and developed by Turkish engineers according to the geographical and climatic conditions of Turkey and manufactured in TUSAŞ facilities for use in the Turkish Armed Forces and Civil aviation fields. The original helicopter is planned to replace the UH-1 and ambulance helicopters in the future.
TUSAŞ started preliminary design studies for the original domestic general purpose helicopter in 2010. The Original Helicopter Program Contract for the 6-ton class general purpose helicopter project was signed on June 26, 2013 and the program schedule began to be implemented as of September 6, 2013. Alp Aviation was responsible for the production and assembly of the landing gear, gearbox and dynamic components, while Spanish CESA was selected to provide the hydraulic systems.
The T625 was initially expected to weigh 5 tons and was planned to use 2 LHTEC CTS800 engines. The LHTEC CTS800 was preferred because it was also used in the TUSAŞ T-129 Atak helicopter. However, the development of the new generation TS1400 engine has begun by the domestic engine company TEI. The first introduction of the helicopter was made at the “Industrialization of the Domestic Helicopter” meeting held in Ankara on September 5, 2014. The T625 made its first prototype flight on September 6, 2018. On June 29, 2019, the T625 prototype made its first fully equipped flight and was certified by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation. It made its first test flight with a TS1400 engine on April 22, 2023.
