Indonesia’s blow to Apple: iPhone 16 banned

Indonesia has banned the use of technology giant Apple products. The decision was reportedly taken because Apple did not fulfill its investment commitments. Both the sale and use of popular products such as the iPhone 16 and Watch Series 10 will be stopped in the country.

Indonesia has banned some of Apple’s products on the grounds that it did not fulfill its investment commitments. The sale and use of Apple’s products, which were released in the fall, were banned in the country. The iPhone 16 and Watch Series 10 were included in the ban. It was stated that the ban covers both the sale and use of iPhone 16 models. iPhone 16 models that are currently sold and used will also be disabled. It was reported that the IMEI numbers of the devices will not be confirmed. PRISON SENTENCE MAY ARISE Indonesian Industry and Trade Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita made a statement, “If there is an iPhone 16 that can work in the country, this means that it is illegal.” Kartasasmita stated that using the devices could lead to serious legal sanctions and even prison time. INVESTMENT TENSIONS BETWEEN INDONESIA AND APPLE Apple had committed to investing $109 million in Indonesia’s infrastructure and local resources. Approximately $95 million of this commitment has not been implemented. The Ministry of Industry announced that they have not yet given permission for the iPhone 16 because Apple has commitments to fulfill. Foreign companies need to make 40 percent local investment to operate in Indonesia.

350 MILLION MOBILE PHONES IN USE

More than 350 million active mobile phones are in use in Indonesia, a country worth $1 trillion. The country’s population is over 270 million. Apple, which aims to grow in the country, is outside the top 5 smartphone brands.
