Merkel reveals her trick for dealing with Trump

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who retired after ruling Germany for 16 years, gave tips on how to get along with US President-elect Donald Trump during an interview. Sharing her analysis of Trump’s personality, Merkel said, “Donald Trump can be very outspoken. He expresses himself very clearly. If you do the same, mutual respect is definitely established.”

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel continues to give interviews for her 700-page book “Freedom: A Memoir 1954-2021” to be published on November 26. The politician, who retired after ruling Germany for 16 years, spoke to the British broadcaster BBC. Merkel, 70, gave tips on how to get along with US President-elect Donald Trump. Merkel has some thoughts on European leaders who are nervous about Trump’s second term. The new US president is threatening to impose punitive customs duties on imports when he returns to the White House in January.

Merkel shared her analysis of Trump’s personality, saying, “It’s really important to know what your priorities are, to make them clear and not to be afraid, because Donald Trump can be very outspoken. He expresses himself very clearly. If you do the same, mutual respect is definitely established. At least that was my experience.” In an interview with Der Spiegel, one of Germany’s leading weekly magazines, Merkel stated that she was “concerned” about the role that technology billionaire Elon Musk would play in the new Donald Trump administration.
