Minister Fidan met with his US counterpart Blinken

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The main agenda item of the meeting between the two ministers was the latest developments in Syria.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s contacts in Ankara continue.

The meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan and his US counterpart Antony Blinken has ended. The two ministers have come together in Ankara to discuss the Syrian agenda.

The two main topics of the meeting were the process that began with the overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria and the fight against terrorism. The Syrian National Army’s advancement in the region was also among the topics on the table.

Minister Fidan stated that the issues of cooperation between the US and Turkey, ensuring stability in Syria as soon as possible, preventing terrorism from gaining ground, and preventing ISIS and the PKK from dominating the region were discussed.

“WE AGREED ON A CEASE-FIRE IN GAZA”

Minister Fidan said, “We agreed on an immediate cease-fire in Gaza. In fact, both the US and Turkey are working intensively with other partners in the region to achieve a cease-fire. Unfortunately, however, the spiral of violence in the region does not stop. Israel continues to kill civilians. We discussed what can be done to stop this situation as soon as possible.”

“WE DISCUSSED THE NECESSITY OF FIGHTING ISIS”

In a statement made by Blinken following the meeting, it was stated that there was a broad agreement on the desired picture to be seen in Syria.

Blinken said, “We discussed the roles that the US and Turkey will play in the future of Syria. We discussed the necessity of continuing efforts to fight ISIS.”

Minister Fidan said, “We discussed how regional countries can support both us and the Syrian people in breaking free from the chains of the Bashar Assad regime and for a future that they will decide for themselves. There is broad agreement on what we want to see in Syria.”
