Minister Şimşek met with his US counterpart Yellen

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek held a series of official contacts in the US, where he visited for the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Minister Şimşek met with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen as part of his contacts.

In a statement made by the US Treasury Department, it was stated that Yellen met with Minister Şimşek and Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) Governor Fatih Karahan on the margins of the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings.

The statement reads, “Yellen and Şimşek also discussed the importance of compliance with sanctions and preventing the Turkish financial system from being misused by sanction evaders and terrorist groups.” Minister Şimşek made a statement as part of his contacts, saying, “We held numerous investor meetings and bilateral talks in the US, where we were for the World Bank and IMF annual meetings. During our contacts, we explained the results of our program and how we will reach our country’s potential by making our program gains permanent. The very intense interest in our country clearly shows that our program is progressing in the right direction.”
