The mysterious incident that took place in 11 villages in the Buldhana district of the Maharashtra state of India has alarmed both the local people and health authorities. 155 people in villages of Shegaon taluka suddenly lost their hair.
Following the incident, a team led by Zilla Parishad CEO Gulabrao Kharat visited the area and announced that work has been initiated. Specialist doctors from Akola and Buldhana faculties of medicine were assigned to investigate the source of the infection, transmission routes and prevention methods.
Authorities began detailed analyses by taking blood samples from 65 people living in the region. In addition, samples of products such as soap, hair oil and shampoo were collected from the markets in the villages, as well as samples from the underground water system and sent to the laboratory.
Bondgaon Village Headman Rameshwaram Dharkar stated that health camps were set up, cleaning campaigns were organized and people were informed about preventive measures as part of the fight against the crisis.
Regional health officer Dr. Amol Gite said, “We detected 15 new cases on Friday. We are giving antifungal drugs and vitamins to all patients. “We expect to receive the biopsy results in four to five days,” he said.
According to information in the Indian press, a state-level expert team will be activated if deemed necessary and comprehensive measures will be taken.
While authorities warned the public to comply with health measures, they emphasized that investigations are continuing to determine the source of the outbreak. The importance of collective action to control the epidemic was emphasized.
