NASA gave the date: Asteroid the size of a 10-story building is approaching Earth!

NASA announced that a giant asteroid the size of a 10-storey building will pass near Earth on December 24, 2024. NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) said that the giant asteroid named 2024 XN1, coming at a speed of 23,160 kilometers per hour, will pass a safe distance before hitting the Earth.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) warned about a giant asteroid rapidly approaching the Earth.
The space agency announced that a giant asteroid named 2024 XN1 will pass by Earth without posing a danger on the morning of December 24. The asteroid, the size of a 10-storey building, will pass 7.21 million kilometers from our planet, traveling at a speed of more than 23 thousand kilometers per hour.
This distance is about 18 times the distance between the Moon and the Earth. Experts state that such transitions are relatively close, but there is no risk of collision.
Astronomer Jess Lee from the Royal Greenwich Observatory stated that the probability of the asteroid hitting the Earth is zero, and said: “The asteroid will be quite far away, so it does not pose a danger to the Earth. However, if an object of this size hit our planet, the consequences could be very devastating.”
Scientists estimate that if 2024 XN1 hits the Earth, it will create an impact with an energy equivalent to 12 million tons of TNT and could destroy an area of 2,000 square kilometers. This would mean a disaster similar to the Tunguska Event in Russia in 1908, which destroyed 80 million trees.
This passage of 2024 XN1 is a harbinger of other passages that will be closer in the coming years. Scientists predict that the asteroid will pass at a distance of 4.7 million kilometers in 2032 and 3.4 million kilometers in 2106. Such events are a reminder of how vulnerable the Earth is. NASA and ESA aim to detect such objects in advance and minimize possible threats by developing planetary defense systems.
Although 2024 XN1 does not pose a threat this time, asteroids of this size continue to approach our planet. Humanity must be prepared for these cosmic threats and continue its scientific studies.

While 2024 XN1 opens a window to the mysteries of space, it once again reveals how important it is to protect our planet.
