Netanyahu dismisses Defense Minister Gallant: Israelis take to the streets

A large number of people took to the streets in Israel to protest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Netanyahu’s decision to dismiss Gallant and replace him with Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz has been criticized by the opposition in Israel.
According to The Jerusalem Post, a large number of people began to gather on Ayalon Street in the capital Tel Aviv to protest Netanyahu’s decision.
The protesters, who closed the street to traffic and lit fires, chanted anti-Netanyahu government slogans.
Images of street protests being held in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and some other cities were shared in the Israeli press.
The Israeli opposition had called for protests after Netanyahu dismissed Gallant.
It had previously been suggested that there were disagreements between Netanyahu and Gallant.
Netanyahu had tried to oust Gallant in 2023, but backed down after street protests broke out.
