Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu threatened to make Israel pay for the attacks of the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made statements regarding the attacks in Yemen on his X social media account. Netanyahu said, “The Houthis are paying a heavy price for their aggression against us and will continue to do so.” Underlining that they will continue to take resolute action against the Houthis, Netanyahu said, “(The Houthis) pose a threat to Israel and the entire region and harm global freedom of navigation.” made his assessment. The Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen had announced that the US, UK and Israel had targeted the capital Sanaa and the province of Hudaydah with air strikes, killing 1 person and wounding 9 people. Following the air strikes, the Israeli army made a statement reporting that the Hezyaz Power Plant near Sanaa, as well as the province of Hudaydah and Ras Isa Port were targeted. LATEST SITUATION IN THE RED SEA Since October 31, 2023, the Houthis in Yemen, backed by Iran, have been seizing commercial ships they claim belong to Israeli companies off the coast of Yemen as a reaction to Israel’s attacks in Gaza, and have been attacking some of them with drones and missiles. Following the Houthis’ actions, many shipping companies have decided to suspend their voyages in the Red Sea. On the grounds that global maritime trade security was at risk, the US announced on December 18, 2023 that a multinational “naval task force” called “Operation Prosperity Guardian” was formed against the Houthi forces with the participation of a group of countries.
