New claim from US press: “Russia provided satellite data to the Houthis”

The US-based Wall Street Journal (WSJ) wrote that Russia provided “satellite data” to the Houthis in Yemen earlier this year to carry out attacks on Western ships in the Red Sea.

The US media claimed that Russia provided strategic information to the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen, who have been carrying out attacks on Israeli-affiliated ships in the Red Sea since November of last year in response to Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.

A report in the US-based Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper stated that Russia provided “data” to the Houthis in Yemen earlier this year to attack Western ships in the Red Sea.

The newspaper wrote in its report, citing an unnamed source, that Russia had provided the data to the Houthis through members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

It was reported that Russia had also shared satellite images in order to “assist” the Houthis in their attacks. WHAT HAPPENED?

The Houthis began targeting Israeli-affiliated ships in the Red Sea in November 2023 in response to Israel’s attacks on Gaza. Following the attacks by the Houthis, who targeted more than 80 commercial ships in the Red Sea and carried out attacks with missiles and drones, western shipping companies decided to suspend their voyages in the Red Sea.

On December 18, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced the establishment of a multinational coalition called “Operation Prosperity Guardian” against the Houthis’ attacks on international commercial ships in the Red Sea.
