Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy released a new video showing the interrogation records of North Korean soldiers who were taken prisoner while wounded in the Kursk region of Russia.
Social media platform X In the video, published on , the 20-year-old soldier was seen calmly explaining the moment he was captured, how he used his fake Russian ID and his military training.

Speaking in Korean, the soldier said, “Everyone including me was injured, so we took shelter in a shelter. Then we moved towards the forest to retreat, but I was injured in my leg and I couldn’t move any further.”

The young North Korean man stated that Ukrainian soldiers gave him an injection to numb him after they captured him, and said, “While I was there, Ukrainian soldiers came, took me with them, gave me an injection and transported me in a vehicle.” According to the video’s caption, the soldier was left alone for three to five days before Ukrainian soldiers found him.
The soldier emphasized that his ID documents did not include a photo and were written entirely in Russian to conceal his North Korean identity. “I don’t know his name. It was all written in Russian,” he said.

The fabricated documents made him appear to be a 26-year-old from the Tuva Republic in southern Siberia at the time of his capture. This illustrated the difficulties that North Korean soldiers faced when deployed to the battlefield without knowing Ukrainian or Russian.

When asked about the instructions they received, he explained that he was taught to draw a house and a gun on a piece of paper and show it to anyone he encountered. The house symbolized the desire to return home, while the gun represented the desire to continue fighting. The soldiers were instructed to release those who chose the house and capture or kill those who chose the gun.
But neither he nor his unit took any Ukrainian soldiers as hostages or prisoners.
The soldier, one of two North Korean prisoners captured by Ukrainian forces, looked healthier than in a video released two days ago.
Zelenski, for his part, said Russia’s North Korean forces are taking them hostages or prisoners. He emphasized the importance of revealing the truth behind the use of Korean soldiers. Zelensky said, “Communication between captured North Korean soldiers and Ukrainian investigators continues. We are determining the facts. We are verifying all the details.”
Stating that Russia uses North Korean soldiers for its own interests, Zelensky said, “The world will learn the whole truth about how Russia uses these men who grew up in ignorance, were completely unaware of Ukraine, and were put forward only to prolong and escalate this war.”
