Israel’s response to Iran’s missile strikes continues to be a subject of debate. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bagheri said that Tehran sent a letter to the UN nuclear watchdog regarding Israel’s threats. Bagheri also stated that Iran would decide how and when to respond to any Israeli strike.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagheri made a statement regarding Israel’s nuclear threats at a weekly press conference.
Bagheri said that they notified the UN nuclear watchdog about Israel’s threats. Israel had announced that it would respond harshly to Iran’s missile attack on October 1. Bagheri said, “Threats against nuclear sites are contrary to the United Nations resolution and must be condemned. We have sent a letter to the UN nuclear watchdog regarding this.”
The spokesman also stated that Iran will decide how and when to respond to any Israeli attack. He also announced that Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi will visit Bahrain and Kuwait today in an effort to reduce regional tensions.
REJECTS ACCUSATION OF INTERFERING WITH BEIRUT’S INTERNAL AFFAIRS
On the other hand, Iran rejected Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s accusation of interfering in Beirut’s internal affairs. On Thursday, the French newspaper Le Figaro reported that Iranian Parliament Speaker Muhammad Bagher Ghalibaf said his government was ready to negotiate the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1701, which is seen as a precondition for a ceasefire in the ongoing war between Israel and Hezbollah.
The resolution stipulates that only the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers will be deployed in southern Lebanon. Mikati then accused Iran of “blatantly interfering in Lebanon’s internal affairs and attempting to establish an unacceptable tutelage over Lebanon.” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagheri said in a statement: “Iran has never had any intention or action to interfere in Lebanon’s internal affairs.” Bagheri said: “We will hold talks with any country that has an initiative and a proposal to end the crimes and aggression against Lebanon and the genocide in Gaza,” adding that there was a misunderstanding about Ghalibaf’s reported remarks.
