Food insecurity and malnutrition are at unprecedented highs due to Israel’s restrictive measures to prevent adequate aid reaching the people of Gaza. Families are forced to ration what little food they can find, sometimes surviving on bread, rice and canned goods. Some go days without food. Some families Al Jazeera spoke to said they eat only one meal a day, which is mostly carbohydrates with no protein or vegetables. The amount of aid sent to Gaza is insufficient to meet the needs of the people. Systematic looting by Palestinian criminal gangs is making the crisis worse. Moreover, various humanitarian organizations such as the United Nations World Food Programme and UNRWA have warned that conditions will worsen further if there is no ceasefire.
