Plane carrying the Queen of Belgium makes emergency landing: Windshield cracks mid-air!

The plane carrying Queen Mathilde of Belgium was forced to make an emergency landing while on a royal visit to Costa Rica. The royal plane’s windshield reportedly cracked mid-flight.

Queen Mathilde of Belgium’s visit to Costa Rica began with a dangerous flight.

The royal plane had to make an emergency landing after a crack in the windshield appeared during Sunday’s flight. Mathilde was on a three-day solo trip to the country organised by UNICEF Belgium and UNICEF Costa Rica. The security measure allows the plane to skip the queue and land ahead of waiting planes in case of emergency. However, the crew on board were able to safely direct the royal plane and the plane landed safely at San Jose Juan Santamaria International Airport 15 minutes ahead of schedule. According to the Daily Mail , while the incident caused concern for the crew on board, the royal passengers appeared to be unaware of the minor accident. Royal commentator Wim Dehandschutter wrote on X: “According to this account and local media, the plane carrying Queen Mathilde of Belgium landed in Costa Rica with a cracked windshield. I was on that plane. As passengers, we didn’t notice anything and received no notification during the flight or upon landing.” Dehandschutter added: “Our KLM flight left Schiphol 20 minutes late, there was turbulence and the landing was quite rough, but nothing seemed alarming. So I was a bit surprised to read the news about the ‘emergency landing’ in local media and on X.”
