Rape allegation from daughter in case that shook France: “My father should die in prison”

New details continue to emerge in the rape case that shook France. The daughter of victim Gisele Pelicot, who was chosen as the country’s person of the year, said she suspects her father gave her drugs in order to sexually abuse her as well. In an interview with the BBC, 46-year-old Caroline Darian described the mental burden of being the daughter of both the victim and the perpetrator, and said she “wanted her father to die in prison.” During the investigation, nude photos of her lying unconscious in bed were found on her father’s laptop. In court, Dominique Pelicot claimed that she did not abuse her daughter.

Caroline Darian, the daughter of Gisele Pelicot, the victim of the gang rape case that shocked France, said she was sure her father gave her drugs and suspected she was raped too.
In an interview with the BBC, Darian, 46, described the mental toll that comes with being the daughter of both a victim and a perpetrator, saying she “wanted her father to die in prison”.
Darian described a fateful call from her mother one evening in November 2020. In that interview, her mother said that her father, now 72, had drugged her for about 10 years to facilitate her rape by different men.
“At that moment I lost my normal life,” Darian told the host, adding that she strongly suspected that she was the victim of sexual abuse by her father.
A few days after the phone call, Darian was called by police and shown images from her father’s laptop of her lying unconscious in bed, wearing only a T-shirt and underwear.

After seeing the images, Darian said she suspected her father had drugged her and raped her.

“But I have no evidence. How many victims does that apply to? They are not believed because there is no evidence. They are not listened to, they are not supported,” the young woman said.

In court, Dominique claimed she did not abuse her daughter. According to media reports, in court, Darian told his father, “I’ll never see you again! You’ll die alone like a dog!” she shouted.

She has now described her father as “one of the worst sexual predators of the last 20 or 30 years” and has written a book titled “I Will Never Call Him Dad Again” detailing her family’s trauma.
The months of horrific gang rape trial concluded last month with 51 people found guilty.
Dominique Pelicot and the 50 men she organized to abuse her wife for years were found guilty of rape or sexual assault and sentenced.
