Russian missiles hit world heritage: “Ukraine’s history is on target”

Russian missiles hit the Ukrainian city of Odessa, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Seven people were injured in the airstrike. Photos released by the Odessa Municipality show the area’s landmarks and many historic buildings reduced to rubble. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claims the attack was a “deliberate attack” on Ukrainian history.

Russian forces carried out an airstrike on the center of the Ukrainian port city of Odessa, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The missiles seriously damaged historic buildings and injured seven people.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the “deliberate attack”, once again stressing the need to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses.
Odessa regional governor Oleh Kiper announced that seven people were injured and emergency teams were dispatched to the scene. Norwegian diplomats were reportedly among those at the “epicenter of the attack” at the historic site.
Images shared by Odessa Mayor Hennady Trukhanov show the lobby and other parts of the Hotel Bristol, a luxury landmark built in the late 19th century, reduced to rubble.
The Odessa Philharmonic concert hall, across from the hotel, was damaged, with many of its windows broken. Museums in the district were also damaged.
