Saudi Arabia executed 6 Iranian citizens on the grounds that they tried to smuggle drugs into the country.

The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Interior announced that 6 Iranians were executed on the grounds that they tried to smuggle drugs into the country. According to the official Saudi Arabian news agency SPA, in a written statement by the Ministry of Interior it was stated that, “Iranian citizens named Jassem Mohammad Shabani, Abdelreza Yunus Tenkasiri, Khalil Shahid Samri, Mohammad Javad Abdulcelil, Mehdi Kenan Ganimi and Hur Mohammad Shabani tried to smuggle drugs into the country.” The statement stated that the suspects in question were detained, found guilty by the court they were brought before and sentenced to death. The statement drew attention to the fact that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had given the order to implement the court decision in question, and emphasized that the Iranian citizens found guilty were executed. IRAN REACTS TO EXECUTIONS On the other hand, according to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Tehran, Abdullah bin Saud Al-Anazi, and gave him a “strongly worded protest note” against these executions.
